A Different Kind of Beauty

The material qualities expressed by the wabi-sabi aesthetic can be described as simple, rustic, intimate, and unpretentious. It is about accepting things the way they are. It is “the Zen of things”.

About Us

Sharing the Experience

We originally discovered the traditions of architectural ceramics in Japan as an exporter of our Subway Ceramics collection, which had become quite popular as it represented that Jazz-age New York style.  While Japanese consumers have readily adopted many architectural influences from outside their country (Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1919 design design for the Tokyo Imperial Hotel, for example) they have never abandoned their own cultural traditions.  What we found in our travels there was a vast assortment of extraordinary tilework, from the smallest mosaics to larger format fields in an incredible array of textures, colors and patterns.

The Zen + Clay Collection offers a faithfully curated selection of architectural ceramics from Japan, and a window into the wabi-sabi world that produced these ceramic products that are simultaneously timeless and contemporary.

Create a tranquil space with earthy tones and a variety of textural finishes, the Zen + Clay collection adds a zen-like ambiance to any space. Celebrate nature with earthen textures that bring the elements indoors.
