Beveled Subway Tile

Subway tile is timeless and makes a statement, but if you are looking for something a bit more dramatic, a beveled subway tile may be exactly what you’ve been looking for! The raised texture makes a visually compelling statement. First used in the Paris Metro in 1890 to provide light in dim subway tunnels, the iconic beveled 3" x 6" tiles continue to illuminate and impress.

We love the look of a classic 3" x 6" beveled subway tile. This bistro accessorized it with freshly-made baguettes and classic table decor, to create a delightfully French atmosphere. Nobody would ever guess it's located in Australia, and not a European bakery!

Looking for more color? Beveled tile doesn't have to be white. Even the Paris Metro was using colorful beveled tile by 1910. Try pairing a white field with some colorful beveled trim pieces. The photograph below includes a gorgeous Concorde Blue trim with some floral accent pieces. Take a closer look and you'll notice some square beveled tile, which adds some complexity to the pattern and helps to break up the 3" x 6" tiles.

Beveled tile is versatile, so play around with the pattern and don't be afraid to mix it with regular subway tile for a more modern look! History buffs can check out our Carreaux du Metro Subway Tile to learn more about historic colors and patterns for beveled tile.
